Abstract This report presents the process technology and environmental factors involved in the emerging industries for providing new supplemental energy supplies from non-conventional sources. It includes: (1) the production of substitute natural gas (SNG) from coal, crude oil and naphtha, (2) importing overseas gas supplies in the form of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and as liquid methanol, (3) the regasification of LNG, (4) the production of liquid fuels from oil shale, and (5) the liquefaction of coal to produce clean fuels. The report also includes introductory chapters to familiarize the reader with the technology of oil and gas processing, heat balances, fuel combustion and stack gases, thermal efficiencies, and water balances.
