Abstract The USEPA currently does not regulate uranium in drinking water but will be revising the radionuclide regulations during 1989 and will propose a maximum contaminant level for uranium. The paper presents treatment technology information on the effectiveness of conventional methods to removal uranium from drinking water. Treatment information based primarily on laboratory and pilot plant studies is presented on conventional coagulation/filtration, ion exchange, lime softening, and reverse osmosis. Ion exchange treatment has been applied successfully on ground waters by small systems.
