Abstract |
Subsurface aeration can remove solvent spills by air stripping. The waste air streams that originate can be cleansed by sorption, combustion, or biodegradation. Laboratory soil microcosms once acclimated to gasoline vapors showed an enhanced mineralization of trichloroethylene and vinyl chloride. The biological cometabolism indicates that a potential exists for degradation of chlorinated solvent vapors in the soil vadose zone or in prepared soil bed bioreactors. |
