Abstract The objective of this investigation is to determine quantitatively the effects of sediment gradation on channel armoring. Criteria for determining the distribution of particle sizes on an armored bed are to be formulated from experimental results. These results were to be obtained by carefully synthesizing known original distributions subjected to constant flow until sediment outflow had ceased. Armored particle size distributions were then to be analyzed.
