Abstract This report investigates the impact of reactivity criteria on organic emission control strategies in the Metropolitan Los Angeles Air Quality Control Region. The investigation involved assembling data on total organic emission rates, on organic emission composition, and on emission reactivity for the Los Angeles basin. On the basis of this data, calculations were then made of the degree to which each emission source type should be controlled to achieve the air quality standard for ozone/oxidant. Results were obtained and compared for the cases of indiscriminate control and of selective, reactivity-based control.
