Abstract |
The International Conference on Reducing Risk in Paint Stripping was held on February 12-13, 1991, in Washington, D.C. Sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, cooperation and support from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the Halogenated Solvents Industry Alliance helped produce a productive and successful conference. The conference focused on managing the use of chemical paint strippers and was intended to identify and promote ways to reduce risks associated with these paint strippers. Serving as a forum for discussion of exposure controls, paint stripper substitutes, and alternative technologies, topics included substitutes for methylene chloride paint strippers; product stewardship programs of methylene chloride producers; opportunities for pollution prevention in paint stripping; and government activities in the United States and other countries. Conference participants included an international group of chemical producers, paint stripper formulators and users, producers of mechanical and other alternative paint stripping technologies, public interest groups, and government officials. |
