Abstract |
The Rose Township site is in rural Rose Township, Oakland County, Michigan. The 110-acre site comprises an upland area almost completely surrounded by wetlands, with an abundance of wildlife onsite. Testing between 1980 and 1987 indicated the presence of organic chemical contamination in soil and ground water. The Record of Decision (ROD) amends a September 30, 1987 ROD that addressed the remediation of onsite soil contamination using thermal destruction. EPA has determined that incineration of surface soil will remove most of the insoluble contaminants present, and the Agency has determined that in-situ soil washing or soil flushing should be tested as a viable option to thermal destruction of subsurface soil contamination. The primary contaminants of concern affecting soil and ground water are VOCs including benzene; other organics including PCBs and PAHs; and metals including arsenic and lead. The selected remedial action for the amendment is included. |
