Abstract |
The Dow Chemical Company has recently generated data from a 13 week inhalation study on 1, 2-dichloropropane. This information is being submitted for your unformation. In this study, rats and mice were exposed to 1, 2-dichloropropane at vapor concentrations of 0, 15, 50 or 150 ppm for 6 hours/day, 5 days/week. There were 10 rats or mice/sex/exposure level. In addition, rabbits were exposed to 0, 150, 500 or 1000 ppm for 6 hours/day, 5 day/week. There were 7 rabbits/sex/exposure levels. Histopathological examination of the nasal tissues of the rats revealed a slight to very slight degeneration of olfactory tissues of the nasal passage at 50 and 150 ppm. A similar effect was seen in some male rabbits at 1000 ppm. Histopathological examination of the nasal tissues of the mice revealed no degenerative changes. In addition, slight respiratory hyperplasia was seen at the same two dose levels in rats and very slight respiratory hyperplasia was observed in a few rats at the 15 ppm dose level. Finally, the blood tests showed that the rabbits became anemic in a dose-related manner at all exposure levels in males and at the top two levels in females. The anemia appeared to be regenerative based upon examination of blood smears and histopathology of the bone marrow. Anemia was not observed in rats or mice. |
