Abstract |
Results of the analyses of the exposure solutions for a-naphthol are presented. These analyses demonstrate that the concentration of e-naphthol was relatively consistent during the 48 hour period between renewals and defined the exposure concentration range as 0.46 to 4.4 mg/L. Analyses of the quality assurance (QA) samples resulted in a recovery range of 96 to 106 percent of the nominal treatment levels. The cumulative mortalities and observations made during the test are presented. The 96 hour LC50 for bluegill exposed to a-naphthol was calculated by probit analyses to be 0.75 with a 95% confidence interval between 0.48 and 1.0 mg/L. The no observed effect level (NOEL) was determined to be < 0.40 mg/L, the lowest concentration of a-naphthol tested. Based on criteria established by the U.S. EPA (1985), a-naphthol is considered highly toxic. All water quality parameters measured remained within acceptable limits for the survival and normal behavior of the exposed organisms. |
