Abstract |
The 6-acre Kem-Pest Laboratories site is a former pesticide production facility located in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. Site features include a concrete block building that housed the pesticide formulation operation and currently holds approximately 11,200 gallons of contaminated water in its basement; six storage tanks used for storing solvents and oil; and a lagoon used for the disposal of sewage and plant waste. An unconfined aquifer system lies within the alluvial and colluvial deposits at the site. From 1965 to 1977, Rem-Pest Laboratories formulated various pesticide products including liquid pesticides, granular insecticides and herbicides, and pesticide dust onsite. The ROD addresses pesticide contamination in the formulation building, ground water, and surface water, as OU2. The primary contaminants of concern affecting debris and surface water are VOCs including benzene; other organics including pesticides; and metals including arsenic, chromium, and lead. The selected remedial action for the site is included. |
