Abstract The report gives results of tests of the use of electrostatically charged fog to control a wide variety of industrial pollutants, ranging from silica flour to SO2 and fly ash. It has been demonstrated that most industrial pollutants acquire an electrostatic charge as they are dispersed into the air. If this charged airborne material is exposed to an oppositely charged water fog there is enhanced contact between the particulates and the fog droplets. After contact is made, the wetted particulates agglomerate rapidly and fall out of the atmosphere. The tests showed that, in general, there has been significant suppression with a minimum of water fog. The technique is therefore well suited to control of moving or fugitive dust sources where the usual hooding and control systems cannot be applied.
