Abstract The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has prepared this Health Effects Support Document for S-ethyl dipropylthiocarbamate (EPTC) to support a determination regarding whether to regulate EPTC with a National Primary Drinking Water Regulation (NPDWR). The available data on occurrence, exposure, and other risk considerations suggest that, because EPTC does not occur in public water systems at frequencies and levels of public health concern, regulating EPTC will not present a meaningful opportunity to reduce health risk. EPA will present a determination and further analysis in the Federal Register Notice covering the CCL proposals. EPTC (Chemical Abstracts Services Registry Number 759-94-4) is a thiocarbamate used to control the growth of germinating annual weeds such as broadleaves, grasses, and sedges. It is a light yellowish, non-corrosive liquid with an aromatic odor. EPTC is released primarily into the environment through spraying and, at times, through irrigation methods. EPTC is listed as a Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) chemical, with air emissions constituting the majority of on-site releases.
