Abstract The 6.4-acre Missouri Electric Works (MEW) site is an electrical equipment sales, service, and remanufacturing operation in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Intermittent onsite runoff channels flow into Cape LaCroix Creek located 0.7 miles east of the site, which enters the Mississippi River, 1.1 miles to the southeast. The MEW property, as well as adjacent properties, have been contaminated with PCBs as the result of inadequate storage and handling of transformers and PCB-contaminated transformer oils. In addition, spills and disposal of industrial spent solvents occured onsite affecting ground water underlying site. The Record of Decision (ROD) addresses both contaminated soil and sediment removal, as well as the treatment of affected ground water. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, sediment, and ground water are VOCs including benzene, PCE, and TCE; and organics including PCBs.
