Abstract |
One obvious problem facing municipal solid waste disposal is that the spatial distribution pattern of generation is nearly inverse to that of the most cost effective existing techniques for disposal. This suggests widespread, intensive reliance on transportation or on the potential of development of new technology. This report addresses one attempt at development of a technological approach, as is being made by Ecology, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York. The technology involved is composting; the attempt is to develop the economic viability of its use on municipal refuse in an inner city situation. Discussed are the market constraints, the process technology, the economics, and the feasibility of the process. |
