Abstract |
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the potential for controlling water use and pollution in a large, commercial fluid milk and ice cream processing plant. The report establishes current levels of water consumption and waste generated by unit processes; examines available mechanical and electrical devices to monitor or control water and wastewaters; determines relationship of factors relating to strength of wastes such as BOD vs TOC vs S.N.F. and fat analysis; and outlines an educational program to encourage water conservation and waste elimination by pointing at specific areas of misuse and mismanagement including development of slide presentation with taped narrative. |
