Abstract |
The acute oral LD50 of Olin-35836 in the albino rat was found to be 3160 mg. /kg. Confidence could not be calculated because of the all-or-none response exhibited by the groups of rats administered the test material. Olin-53836 did not produce any evidence of dermal irritation or toxicity in the rabbits to which the test material was applied in dosages as high as 2000 mg. /kg. Instillation of Olin-53836 into the unwashed eyes of albino rabbits produced severe irritation including purulent discharge, pannus and opacity of the cornea. These signs were still in evidence at the end of 7 days of observation. However, those rabbits in which the eyes were irrigated 2 and 4 seconds after instillation of the test material, only slight irritation to the conjunctivae was noted which disappeared within 4 days after treatment. |
