Abstract | The purpose of this report is to identify the types, makes and models of light-duty chassis dynamometers which are presently available for purchase. Particular attention is given to those types which can be used for measuring exhaust emissions by the current Federal Testing Procedure; i.e. units with adjustable inertia simulation capability and adjustable steady-speed power absorption capability. The required inertia range is from 1,750 to 5,500 lbs. and the corresponding 50 mph power range is from 7.7 to 15.8 horsepower. The dynamometers applicable for emissions testing are then compared on the basis of performance and cost. |
