Groups of five male rats were administered three to thirteen doses of the test compound by gavage at 100, 50, or 10 mg/kg over three to seventeen days. The highest dose severely affected feed intake and body weight gain animals in this group died or were euthanatized after four days. Moderate reductions in feed intake and moderate to severe decreases in body weight gain were also observed at the mid- and low-dose levels. Abnormalities observed in the highdose group included necrotizing gastritis, pale livers, and small seminal vesicals. Histopathologic changes in this group included gastric necrosis, alceration, and perforation. Necrosis of tho liver, spleen, adrenal glands and testis appeared secondary to severe gastric irritation and subsequent peritonitis. Moderate to severe conical atrophy of the thymus was also observed at the highdose level. Histopathologic changes in the mid- and low |
