Six Kyte River basin stations were sampled for water quality, sediment quality, macroinvertebrates, fish and habitat in 1984. From these data environmental quality was summarized utilizing various indices including water quality (WQI), macroinvertebrates (MBI), fish (AIBI) and habitat (PIBI). In addition, sediment quality was determined using criteria developed by Kelly and Hite (1984). Individual stations were evaluated for degree of support of aquatic life and classified according to the biological stream classification system used for Illinois streams. Overall environmental quality was good providing full aquatic life use at all six stations. According to the biological stream classification system based primarily on AIBI values, the Kyte River and Prairie Creek were classified as Class B streams. Steward Creek and Beach Creek were classified as Class C streams. |
