Abstract |
The purpose of this document is to assist federal, State, and local air pollution agencies and others who are interested in locating potential air emitters of methyl chloroform and making gross estimates of air emissions therefrom. Section 3.0 of this document briefly summarizes the physical and chemical characteristics of methyl chloroform, and provides an overview of its production and use. Section 4.0 of this document focuses on major production source categories that may discharge air emissions containing methyl chloroform. Section 5.0 discusses the uses of methyl chloroform as industrial feedstocks and major solvent uses, particularly degreasing and coating operations. Section 6.0 addresses emissions as a result of releases from methyl chloroform-containing products after manufacture and emissions resulting from the manufacture of products other than methyl chloroform, or as a by-product of processes (e.g., kraft pulping). |
