Abstract |
The document presents information on emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from wood furniture coating facilities in Shelby County, Tennessee. Information is presented on the industry, emissions from wood furniture coating facilities, emission control techniques, and the costs of reducing emissions. Sources of information include plant visits to furniture coating facilities in Shelby County, a review of Shelby County permit applications, the 1985 VOC emissions inventory for Shelby County, discussions with furniture coating facilities and spray equipment vendors, a review of technical literature, and studies conducted in other states. The control measures described in the document represent the presumptive norm or reasonably available control technology (RACT) that can be applied to existing furniture coating plants. It may require technology that has been applied to similar, but not necessarily identical, source categories. It is not intended that extensive research and development be conducted before a given control technology can be applied to the source. However, short-term evaluation programs are considered an appropriate technology-forcing aspect of RACT. |
