Abstract |
The purposes of this document are to describe the procedures, technical criteria, and standards and specifications for developing and reporting air pollutant emission factors or equations for publication. Chapter 2 provides background on emission factors and their uses and limitations. It describes the pollutant terminology used in AP-42 and discusses some of the emission test methods used to measure these pollutants. Chapter 3 provides an overview of the sequential tasks involved in revising or developing emission factors. It describes the update procedures and discusses EPA's various tools for disseminating information. Chapter 4 provides the details on how the tasks outlined in Chapter 3 can best be accomplished, from data collection through data evaluation and external reviews, to the determination of final emission factors. Appendix A presents a typical AP-42 section and an L&E document as examples of the editorial specifications to be used. Appendix B contains EFIG's Public Participation Plan and Appendix C contains a description of using the F-factor method for determining pollutant emission rates using pollutant concentrations in the exhaust stream of a combustion source and the oxygen concentration. Appendix D is a listing of the 188 Hazardous Air Pollutants. |
