Contents Notes | Domestic energy resources in the western United States are expected to play a large part in meeting future national needs. The five states covered in this report -- Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah -- contain huge reserves of coal and oil shale. Renewed federal leasing and the application of new conversion technologies could add greatly to the development of these resources. This report summarizes and updates the tax and revenue systems of the five western States expected to participate the most in additional energy resource development in the near future. The descriptions contained in this report form the bases for evaluations of fiscal impacts of energy development. |
