Abstract | The paper reviews organics data obtained from fixed-bed coal gasification processes. The review indicates that, when gasifiers were operated with fuels having similar volatiles contents, they all produced about 30 kg of condensable organics per metric ton of feed coal; entrained-bed processes produced virtually none. These condensable organics were generally similar in composition. However, detailed comparisons of the results indicated that the sums of the speciated components accounted for a relatively small portion of the total organics and that significant data gaps remain. Further investigation indicated that the speciation methodology may have omitted certain types or classes of compounds that were not specifically sought. This review points up the strengths and identifies weaknesses in the data compilations. |
