Abstract | The objectives of the review are to: (1) provide a brief summary of the major proposed applications of engineered plants, (2) highlight published results on their potential non-target effects, (3) suggest points to consider in developing and releasing engineered plants, (4) propose research needed to identify potential long term effects of releasing engineered plants and (5) briefly discuss potential impacts of regulations, intellectual property rights and public acceptance on the development, safety evaluation and commercialization of engineered plant products. |
