Abstract |
Summary toxicokinetic and toxicity information regarding glycol ethers is presented. Comparitive absorption rates of glycol ethers through human epidermis in vitro ranged from 22.2 ug/sq cm/hr (for triethylene monobutyl ether) to 2705 ug/sq cm/hr (for ethylene monomethyl ether). In a dermal limit test with rabbits, each glycol ether was administered at 1 g/kg under occlusion to shaved backs of rabbits for 6 hrs/day, 5 days/week for 3 weeks. No toxic effects were noted other than irritation at the site of application. CMA briefly outlined a proposed subchronic dermal toxicity study of triethylene glycol methyl ether with rabbits. |
