Abstract | An inexpensive bioassay system was developed to estimate pollutant effects on a benthic animal. Mirex, a fire ant toxicant, was taken into the substrate by the burrowing and feeding activity of the lugworm, Arenicola cristata, and significantly affected this activity. Mirex was present in the adult worm as well as in its juvenile stage. |
