Abstract |
During the past year, the California Air Resources Board conducted a survey of 14 health experts on the human damages from mobile source air pollution. A variant of the Delphi technique was used in the study to arrive at a consensus judgment of the experts on the dose-response relationship for photochemical oxidants, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide. The panel experts were requested to answer questionnaires to provide dose-response for all three pollutants and for healthy individuals as well as diseased or sensitive persons. The completed questionnaires were analyzed and the group consensus were sent to the panel members. The panel experts were then asked to answer the same questionnaires again for a second time. The data obtained during the second round represents the final group consensus. In the first round survey, there was good agreement among the panel experts for the health effects of oxidant on all categories of population, while the data for both carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide was much less so. The results of the second round survey showed improvement in group agreement for all three pollutants. |
