Abstract |
A clinical study by Dyro published in 1978 (of which we have just become aware) tends to confirm a possible link to the solvents used in the process. Although the nature of the effect is not considered to be functionally incapacitating, and the effect appears to be slowing reversible, it is nonetheless an undesirable health effect. We believe that EPA should be made aware of such information. NIOSH and OSHA have been informed separately of this new information. Shell employees and other companies using similar oil de-waxing technology will also be informed. We have taken steps to reduce exposure to these solvents in the oil de-waxing unit and this effort will continue. |
