Abstract |
The Mine Waste Risk Screen Subcommittee of the EPA Science Advisory Board's Environmental Engineering Committee concluded that the general risk screen approach for analysis of mining waste is appropriate and the risk screen methodology can be used for setting priorities for collection of additional data when all appropriate pathways and component models are implemented. The Subcommittee recommended that, while the model may be appropriate, it should not, in its current state, be used to provide a context for performing analyses which may lay out options for the scope of the regulatory approaches for managing mining wastes. The Subcommittee identified additional pathway receptor combinations approach is conceptually sound and the air emission factors are appropriate for the present state of development of the risk screen analysis. |
