Abstract | Coastal areas of California are faced with the introduction of ever-increasing volumes of sewage (effluent) into coastal waters by ocean outfalls. Future changes, because of this increase in effluent, may be partially anticipated by evaluating larger existing outfalls. Foraminifera, marine protozoans with a test of shell of either calcium carbonate or of foreign particles, are dominant constituents of sediments on the mainland shelf and provide one ideal means of dermonstrating relationships between marine animals and ocean pollution. The report gives data on this. |
