Abstract | The use of different pretreatment processes to evaluate the reduction in membrane fouling due to pretreatment is discussed. Microfiltration, GAC filtration, alum coagulation, biofiltration, and ozonation/biofiltration are investigated. A hydrophobic UF membrane is used. The results suggest that processes that can reduce fouling, in order of best to worst, are: ozonation/biofiltration, biofiltration, coagulation, GAC adsorption, and microfiltration. |
