Abstract | Under the Noise Pollution and Abatement Act of 1970 (title IV to the Clean Air Amendment of 1970 (Public Law 91-604)), the Environmental Protection Agency, through the Office of Noise Abatement and Control, is required to hold public hearings. A series of eight hearings is being conducted in selected cities to aid the Office of Noise Abatement and Control in compiling information relevant to its investigation of the problem of noise pollution. Further, these hearings present an opportunity for the public and industry to express their viewpoints on the general subject of noise control. The volumes in the complete series will be: Vol. I.—Noise in Construction. II.—Manufacturing and Transportation Noise (Highway and Air). III.—Urban Planning, Architectural Design; and Noise in the Home. IV.—Standards and Measurement Methods, Legislation and Enforcement Problems. V.—Agriculture and Recreational Use Noise. VI.—Transportation (Rail and Other), Urban Noise Problems and Social Behavior. VII.—Physiological and Psychological Effects. VIII.—Technology and Economics of Noise Control; National Programs and Their Relations With State and Local. |
