Abstract | The report describes a new system aimed at controlling water pollution by industrial wastes, the National pollutant discharge elimination system. Industrial plants must now obtain permits to discharge certain maximums of pollutants into water bodies. The Environmental Protection Agency will set standards for effluent limits, and will require publicity owned waste treatment plants to provide minimums of secondary treatment by the best practicable technology available. |
