Abstract |
The paper summarizes the results of evaluating the genetic effects of five samples obtained from a mercuric acetate plant in New Jersey. The samples were tested in Arabidopsis thaliana embryo assay after extraction with methylene chloride and water leachate and as crude samples. These samples had been previously evaluated for mutagenicity in Salmonella typhimurium and a few in mouse lymphoma thymidine kinase assay. The study shows that the results obtained in Arabidopsis assay were in agreement with Salmonella and mouse lymphoma assays with the added advantage that the system is very cost effective and does not need exogenous metabolic activation. |
