Abstract |
The innovative and alternative technology provisions of the Clean Water Act of 1977 (PL 95-217) provide financial incentives to communities which use wastewater treatment alternatives that reduce costs of energy consumption over conventional systems. Some of these technologies have been only recently developed and are not in widespread use in this country. In an effort to increase awareness of the potential benefits of such alternatives and to encourage their implementation where applicable, the Municipal Environmental Research Laboratory has initiated this series of Emerging Technology Assessment reports. This document discusses the applicability and economic feasibility of utilizing Sequencing Batch Reactors as a viable alternative to conventional continuous flow activated sludge facilities for the treatment of municipal wastewater. |
