Abstract
With use of the paralytic effect in the chicken as the best available index of a possible paralytic effect in man, a group of organic phosphorus insecticides has been screened for this property. The compounds tested include chlorthion, DDVP, demeton, diazinon, EPN, malathion, and OMPA. No delayed paralytic effects were seen with any of the compounds tested. The chickens dosed with malathion and EPN developed leg weakness immediately after dosing. This weakness was reversible after malathion but was essentially irreversible after EPN.
