Abstract |
In response to a Congressional mandate, a study was undertaken by the Office of Research and Development to monitor several metal and organic pollutants in air and other environmental media near the Rutland, Vermont Municipal Waste Combustor (MWC) facility; and to estimate the magnitude of any increases in health risk. As data became available, it became apparent that there was no obvious relationship between the operation of the MWC and ambient air pollution levels. Therefore, the focus of the study shifted from one of health risk assessment to one of more sophisticated statistical analysis to determine whether any influence of the MWC was detectable. The final report (EPA/600/8-91/007) was intended as a summary of the study undertaken in Rutland, Vermont and some practical applications of the feasibility of conducting environmental monitoring and exposure assessment of such facilities. These Appendices support the final report by providing the monitoring data and analyses used in the report. |
