Abstract | The Statement of Basis and Purpose for the National Interim Primary Drinking Water Regulations contains the concepts and rationale for arriving at the specific Maximum Contaminant Levels in the Regulations which were promulgated on December 24, 1975. In addition to the material in support of the maximum contaminant levels for 10 inorganic chemicals, six organic chemicals, turbidity and microbiological contaminants, material is also included which provides the basis for the lack of maximum contaminant levels for certain other contaminants. Among the latter are sodium, sulfate, organics-carbon absorbable, cyanide, certain pesticides and general bacterial populations. Numerous literature citations are provided in support of the narrative material. |
