Abstract | In previous rabbit cutaneous testing at BRRC, trimethoxysilane (CAS No. 2487-90-3) was not evaluated for nephrotoxic potential, a feature shown to be common to a number of other related silanes. Therefore, trimethoxysilane was reevaluated for percutaneous toxicity in the female rabbit with the addition of kidney and urinary bladder histology. In previous tests, trimethoxysilane was found to be a DOT 'corrosive' to rabbit skin in the 4-hour occluded test. In order to further determine the classification of this material on the basis of skin corrosivity, both 1-hour and 3-minute tests were done. All tests were conducted using standard BRRC methods. |
