Abstract |
This manual is a compilation of the chemical procedures used at the National Environmental Research Center-Las Vegas for determining stable elements and radionuclides in environmental surveillance samples. It supersedes 'Southwestern Radiological Health Laboratory Handbook of Radiochemical Analytical Methods' published as Report No. SWRHL-11 in March 1970. It should be noted that the procedures in the current compilation are intended for use in processing relatively large numbers of samples in the shortest possible time for environmental radiological surveillance and, therefore, in some cases represent a compromise between precise analytical determination and adequate determination for surveillance purposes. For historical purposes, two methods for radiostrontium in milk are included since large numbers of samples were analyzed by these methods. An appendix provides instructions for preparing reagents listed for each method. It does not provide instructions for preparing solutions normally found in chemistry laboratories. |
