Abstract | The report covers results from experimental work in measurement of emissions from heavy duty diesel and gasoline fueled engines and an investigation of the effectiveness of engine modifications and/or auxiliary devices for reducing emissions. Definitive engineering information was obtained on the characteristics of seven diesel and two gasoline engines: the diesel engines were operated on a 13-mode procedure and a 23-mode procedure; the gasoline engines were operated on a 9-mode procedure and a 23-mode procedure for the baseline tests and the 23-mode procedure was used in the parametric study. The report describes the test equipment and fuels, and outlines the experimental procedures for analysis and measurement. The experimental results are presented in detail. |
