Abstract |
The energy use patterns and air pollutant emissions of the 10 largest energy-consuming industries in the U.S. are presented. Each industry is described in terms of basic energy-consuming processes, and the amount and types of energy consumed and the air pollutant emissions for each process (especially those related to combustion) are presented. The energy use efficiency of each process is discussed with a view toward increasing efficiency either by improvement of the existing process or by replacement with a new process. In addition, the effects of such changes on the air pollutant emissions are determined. |
