Abstract
In North America, the freshwater annelid worms (Clitellata: Oligochaeta), belonging in the family Tubificidae, are composed of 18 genera, 54 species, one subspecies, and several variant forms. All taxa can be identified by external and internal morphological features. This guide presents an introduction to the general biology of the Tubificidae, collecting and processing methods, a species list, an artificial illustrated key, a glossary, an annotated systematic list, and a selected bibliography.
