Abstract |
Distinctive among U.S. research programs, the EPA's Office of Research & Development (ORD) fosters a multi-disciplinary science program that frames human health research within a larger environmental context. Through better understanding of how pollutants move through the environment and affect human health, EPA is finding better ways to protect Americans' health and our common environmental heritage. EPA's identification of research priorities is strategic, and reflects a disciplined process to connect the Agency's program needs with specific EPA research strategies. This pamphlet provides an overview of the research programs, and directions for FY05. The FY05 budget is structured based on the EPA's five goals. In this pamphlet, the sections on Air, Water and Land outline EPA's first three strategic goals. The sections on Human Health and Ecosystem research correspond with most of EPA goal four. Research conducted under EPA goal five cuts across all research areas and includes pollution prevention, technology for sustainability, and economics and decision sciences. |
