Abstract | The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), as amended in 1996, required the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to publish a list of contaminants which, at the time of publication, are not subject to any proposed or promulgated national primary drinking water regulation (NPDWR), that are known or anticipated to occur in public water systems and which may require regulations under the SDWA (section 1412(b)(1)). This notice announces the draft CCL, provides background on how it was developed, and seeks comment on various aspects of developing the final CCL. The CCL will be the source of priority contaminants for drinking water research, monitoring, guidance development, and for selection of candidates for drinking water regulation. The draft CCL includes 58 chemical and 13 microbiological contaminants. |
