Abstract |
The National Priorities List (NPL) informs the public of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites that warrant further investigation to determine if they pose risks to human health or the environment. Such sites are eligible for long-term 'remedial action' financed under the Trust Fund established by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERLA) as amended by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act of 1986 (SARA). In October 1990, CERCLA was extended to September 30, 1994. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the primary responsibility for managing the Superfund program. |
