Abstract |
The report describes the objectives, content, and fiscal year 1976 progress of the research and development program being conducted by the EPA for environmental characterization of the fluidized-bed combustion (FBC) process. EPA's FBC program is a contract program, utilizing a variety of contractors, aimed at ensuring that all potential environmental problems associated with this developing energy technology are identified and adequately addressed. EPA's program is being conducted in coordination with the FBC technology development program being conducted by the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA). Some important contributions of EPA's FBC program to the National effort will include: establishment of environmental goals based on health and ecological effects of emitted pollutants; comprehensive analyses of emissions from operating FBC units; assessment and development of any necessary environmental control technology; recommendations for environmental standards for the process; and development of manuals of best available technology. |
