Abstract | This decision document presents a selected remedial action designed to protect human and ecological receptors at Zone 1, Pease AFB, New Hampshire. Zone 1 includes the following sites: Landfill 2(LF-2), Landfill 3 (LF-3), Landfill 4 (LF-4), Landfill 5 (LF-5), the Bulk Fuel Storage Area (BFSA), the Paint Can Disposal Area (PCDA), and the Railroad Tracks Herbicides. Additionally, three drainageways have received runoff and contamination and have been evaluated in Zone 1 documents. The selected remedy at Zone 1 addresses the principal threat posed by the migration of contaminated groundwater from the LF-5 source area. Implementation of this remedy will prevent endangerment of public health, welfare, and the environment by allowing natural physical and chemical attenuation processes to remove residual contamination in groundwater. The selected remedy also involves the placement of deed restrictions on the use of groundwater in areas of Zone 1 where MCLs are exceeded for the time period during which the MCLs are exceeded and long-term environmental monitoring in the zone. |
