Abstract |
The report describes a series of studies that identified the factors that contribute to water main failures and developed decision strategies on main rehabilitation, replacement and preventative maintenance. The objective of the report is to provide the water utility industry with practical methods to assess long term changes in the condition of distribution systems and to assist in rehabilitation/replacement planning decisions. Written as a guidance manual, the following topics are described: analysis of utility break and leak patterns; water main deterioration; assessment of water main conditions; economics of distribution system rehabilitation; monitoring of distribution system conditions; development of rehabilitation planning system. |
